Bukit Cina Hotels
Where to Stay in Bukit Cina
Bukit Cina – also known as Chinese Hill – is a hillside of historical significance in Malacca Town. Once it was the abode of Puteri Hang Li Po, a Chinese princess of the Ming Dynasty, who was married to the Sultan Mansor Shah of Malacca in the mid-15th century. Due to her vast retinue of over 500 attendants, the sultan gave her this knoll as a gift and established it as their residence.
Bukit Cina is an established tourist attraction due to the fact that it is the site of Hang Li Po’s Well which was constructed by her followers for her. Supposedly the well never dried up and today has earned a reputation as a wishing well. Another interesting thing about Bukit Cina is that it is home to the reputedly-largest Chinese graveyard – outside of China – which houses over 12,000 graves, some of which date as far back as the Ming Dynasty. Hotel 7 – a contemporary boutique hotel with distinct Peranakan accents – is conveniently located opposite this hillock and is a short distance away from the Malacca City Centre.
